Finn turned a cruel smile his way. βNo? And I guess I could be with you instead?β
Thereβs something behind the wicked twist to Finnβs lipsβ¦ yes, itβs there in his eyesβthey plead with Γtheren, but itβs so subtleβ¦ no it must just be his wishful thinking and although Γtheren so desperately wanted to say yes! the word got caught in his throat. Gods, he wanted to scream it. Yes, be with me! Iβd treat you right. Iβd be good for you. But Γtherenβs throat constricted, and he could not get the words out.
Finnβs smile morphed into a grimace as his eyes drifted down. βThatβs what I thought.β Finnβs voice is low and shaky. βKorrin might break my heart. He might be a selfish, arrogant bastard, but at least he can be honest with me.β Finnβs eyes raised to meet Γtherenβs again, lined with silver and a cool fire burning behind them. βAt least he isnβt afraid,β Finn said and then walked briskly past him, shoving his hands into his pockets.
Γtheren has a moment to finally express what he feels, but he cannot find the wordsβ¦ πͺπ€β¨ #WIPSnips from TMF for βwalkβ

I just finished a remarkable novel by Amber Dermont, Starboard Sea. It tells the story of a wealthy prep school boy who, despite undeniable advantages, is othered and traumatized in more than one way. He labors to become a decent young man and wins sailing races, too. Recommend. #literaryfiction

There is a tag line: A stolen life. A forbidden love. A rebellion born from the roots of magic.

π Death is just one of the veils of existence in this worldβ¦ itβs like an onion and the veils are layers that can be peeled back and traveled by certain magic users. π€β¨

Characters in my novels do tend to die. Not everyoneβcertainly nowhere near Game of Thrones level but some do die. I donβt want to say too much more because of spoilers other than to say death sometimes is transient in my stories and may not be what it seems. π€β¨

Remembering the Hungry Ghosts, by Emmi Khor
Chee usually spends his days driving aged-care seniors around Darwin, but tonight, he isnβt driving for the living.
Super-stoked to be approached for translation to my story that was shortlisted as a Best Australian Yarn, was a finalist into the Aurealis Awards, and reprinted by @innerworlds.bsky.social I'll be in a translated anthology next year! π₯Ή
