There’s a scene in Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill involving a ghost with scratched out eyes sat in a rocking chair in a darkened hallway that gave me an honest to god jump scare when I read it.

The Sound of the Dark by Daniel Church. A really gripping, and unsettling read. A surprising number of typos for an Angry Robot book though that are becoming increasingly jarring.

It’s their first article for FT, the cover story and a damn good read!

Edenville by Sam Rebelein, about 150 pages in and not really sure I get what it’s going for tonally. It’s well-written and interesting though so I expect I will stick with it.

I’m only about 40 pages in, but I know what you mean. The strength of his previous Star Wars books has been the action so seems a little slow right now. Also not sure having the trilogy split between three different authors will work out well.

Cover of Stark Holborn's Ten Low
Cover tones are bright yellow and reddish brown.
A bald woman's head, tilted slightly down with eyes looking up faces the viewer. Semi transparent sand dunes are superimposed from her nose down as if fading from one scene to the next. Rough, red lines criss cross her neck. A circle (planet? Sun?) about the size of a golf ball (scaling against her head) is superimposed over the top left of her head.
