This is basically my take: Talarico did a better job of building a coalition, while Crockett was a known Dem fighter who focused on driving out the base in Dem strongholds. But I think we'll need both sides of that to take the general, and I hope they both realize that and work together on it.

This is the risk with using “partisan” as a stand-in for “black.” Maybe the Texas electorate really is too racist for a statewide candidate like Crockett. But that has very little to do with whether Texans will be ready to check Trump in eight months.
