Thrilled to be in πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ at NIFS Kanoya with to study the neuromechanics of sprinting πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ’¨

A 52m force platform + kinematics + EMG = the perfect setup to explore sprint performance.

Thanks to a @WBIworld fellowshipβ€”great timing with the FNRS project starting soon! πŸ™Œ

Locomotion efficiency of elephants: mechanical work and energetics Highlighted Article: Despite their massive size, elephants achieve high locomotor efficiency, with limb swing accounting for up to 75% of total mechanical work, challenging assumptions about scaling i...

Also, congratulations to @arthurdewolf.bsky.social and colleagues for their brand new (more serious) paper looking at locomotor efficiency and mechanical work of elephants!

Happy #WorldElephantDay! 🐘

For a conference paper, we found elephants walk & change gait at lower relative speeds than dynamic similarity predicts, hinting that in giant animals like dinosaurs πŸ¦•, absolute speed & musculoskeletal limits matter more than scaling laws

Good news: I’ve been awarded a postdoc grant from the FNRS! πŸŽ‰
Allowing me to continue working at UCLouvain, in collaboration with UMaastricht & KULeuven.

Grateful for the support β€” and still buzzing from an inspiring week at ECSS in Rimini!

Nice to see that this data is still being used! Being part of the other lab that took part in those experiments, our last paper on this was in 2020. We still use the same force plates!

Will be happy to read this research! Good luck!

I will be defending my thesis publicly on the 25th of March at 1730 (GMT+1)

It will be a comprehensive-to-all type of presentation of about 45 minutes on some of the projects we've worked with over the years! Including running against a wind, while turning or with altered step frequency!

Simultaneous stabilizing feedback control of linear and angular momentum in human walking Stabilizing bipedal gait is mechanically challenging. Previous studies have used the assumption that the linear momentum of the body center of mass (CoM) is controlled to analyze how gait is stabilize...

We have just published this pre-print. doi: doi.org/10.1101/2025.... We show that linear and angular momentum are both controlled during bipedal walking. This study resulted from discussions we had on the use of foot placement to stabilise gait. Comments and suggestions are welcome.

On my way to Montevideo for some good end of year science! Looking forward to hearing some big speakers!

I'll also be presenting something about the upper and lower limb coordination in running with a change in step frequency.

New paper out! πŸ“– We looked at the coordination of the pelvis and thigh segments when running at high and low step frequencies by using modified vector coding.

Some nice results and a new collaboration 😊

Now that Bluesky has native video support, I figured it's time for a repost: Teaching a biomechanical model to run using reinforcement learning.

New results coming soon! #BiomechSky

This week I had the chance to present classes in the electrophysiology of gait analysis for the EURON initiative 🧠 and an introductory class in the biomechanics of trail running πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ

Two integral parts of my research 😊
