The passage of CA Prop 50 wraps a big night on the democracy/voting rights front. In addition to Prop 50, most notably: ME rejected voting restrictions, PA preserved its liberal supreme court majority, and VA cleared a path to end its Jim Crow-era system of lifetime felony disenfranchisement.

Let this serve as a reminder that the system and status quo are not popular. No matter how hopeless and helpless you feel because change is HARD, it is not impossible.

Democratic party leadership has been on autopilot for ten years, they weren't losing to fascism, fascism isn't popular enough for them to lose to fascism, they were allowing it to fill the void where their leadership should have been. Tonight we're seeing that we have other options. They should too.

They won two races tonight, both against GOP incumbents.

The margins? 62% to 38% in both.

For folks not in CA, this was literally the only thing on the ballot. And 10 mil folks felt it was worth checking that one box.
