This is to say: if you're an attorney who's hesitated to take on habeas cases because you think you lack the knowledge, or you're worried about whether you'll really help, I PROMISE you can make a difference. I'm just a dipshit with a 7-year-old laptop and a bad attitude. If I can do it, so can you.

GLP-1 drugs quiet β€˜drug noise’ as well as 'food noise'

People taking Ozempic, Wegovy and other GLP-1s often describe β€œfood noise” disappearing β€” the constant mental chatter about food suddenly goes quiet. ⬇️

No, let's not do this today or ever.

You clearly need to learn some history to understand voter suppression, gerrymandering, and the ways in which the GOP lie, cheat, and steal to have power.

We find that children from low-SES backgrounds are viewed as more hardworking than smart -- as "strivers." Children's stereotypes on this topic are correlated with their parents'. πŸ‘‡

I love that the paper mentions PPAR agonists!

Maybe we'll hear more at Roundtable with @dbkell.bsky.social & @resiapretorius.bsky.social (+ Dr. Vaughn + Dr. Schofield) + some very awesome panelists.

This is timely. I want to relay a story about some egregious behavior I have witnessed regarding the prosecution of @anniejump.bsky.social. She asked me to make this a post telling the story.

tl;dr A lawyer lied about her behavior to a federal prosecutor, potentially prejudicing the judge.

Something that I think about less than I should but more than never is how the media backdrop to my toddlers lives is just full of this stuff that’s made by toxic characters, largely men, who write fantasy worlds for kids while being unable to conceptualise women as people or themselves as predators

Typically, a Doctor would petition your patron gods, the Insurers, with placating words or sometimes even repeated forceful invocations of higher power for permission to enact changes to your body before proceeding with the application of tonics, poultices, and other primitive mediform treatments.

My basic rubric:

"Can the program say "no" to a request?" (courtesy of you, months ago)
"Can the program a) comprehend harm caused by its responses, and b) alter its behavior to avoid causing harm from what it's "learned"?"

I come to this from writing fiction...and watching people.

Hegseth needs to stand trial after this as a war criminal. Between this attack and the girls' school, there's no ambiguity. He is responsible for mass murder and must be held accountable.

GLP-1 drugs may fight addiction across every major substance, according to a study of 600,000 people GLP-1 drugs are the first medication to show promise for treating addiction to a wide range of substances.

For your weekend reading: I wrote about what our BMJ findings mean for addiction β€” why GLP-1s work across every addictive substance, and how these drugs seem to quiet cravings the same way they quiet food noise.

The angry part of Bluesky remembered KOSA (now under the Kids Internet and Digital Safety Act, or H.R. 7757) exists but rather yell at you I'll say:

If you have REALLY bad anxiety (like me!), you can call your reps after hours! Voicemail counts! The site 5Calls give you a script to read off of:

A good one I use for when someone is saying things about someone else, making a racially or sexually charged joke/comment, or just bc I can tell professionality won't get me anywhere in the moment is to act super confused and be like "I don't get it." "What does that mean?" "Wait explain that."

β€œI’m not interested in discussing my personal life.” AND/OR β€œI keep my personal and professional life separate, thanks.”

β€œI really don’t think that’s appropriate behavior/to say at a [professional conference]. Is there something else we can discuss?” OR phrase it as a rhetorical question: β€œDo you think that’s an appropriate thing to do/say at a [professional conference]?”

β€œThat is not what I’m here for. Let’s change the subject.”

Due to recent discussions: when I worked at a library, I was trained on how to politely but directly respond to unwanted sexual comments. Unfortunately commonly-marketed fantasies about librarians mean it happens a lot.

Rehearse these. Be comfortable saying them forcefully, but politely.

It is really hard sometimes to keep the big picture in mind but whereas it was noteworthy that just two people were elected to Congress in 2018 who were openly and hyper critical of Israel, in 2026 it will be more than two dozen.
