As of July 2nd this is what Detroit is looking like. Copp or Kasper as 1LW or 2C. Improved depth scoring with full seasons of Mazur, Soderblom and JVR. And improved between the pipes. But the Red Wings biggest needs still have not been addressed: Top 6 forward, Top 4 D. #LGRW

Steve Yzerman has plenty of cap (~$14.2m) to work with to potentially swing a deal for a top 4 defenseman or top 6 forward, even if you earmark ~$4m or so for Kane & JVR bonuses (which can be pushed to next season).

Could also overpay someone on a 1 year stopgap deal. #LGRW

Arguably the best signing the Wings can make now is getting a long-term extension done with Simon Edvinsson

It’s ok to be frustrated over Dobson. But be honest with where the frustration comes from. It’s not about missing out on Dobson. It’s about rarely being overly involved in rumors. I get that too. I want a big swing. But let’s not act like Dobson wasTHE answer. We didn’t have what NYI wanted.

I get the Peterka trade a lot more now. Obviously keeping Peterka was preferred. But they got two roster players now, which was what they preferred. Kesselring will be their #2RHD, which is hard to find. Doan is a hard forechecking winger who is still young. Not bad.

The Toews situation is interesting. Detroit has an in having Kane, Cat and Gus. And obviously if healthy he could be a great leader for this team, and good contributor. But will Lightning strike twice on future-HHOF-former-Hawks returning from injury? Maybe I’m pessimistic, but I’m unconvinced.
