There is no way to win this game. There is no behavior that will satisfy them.

You are either failing to live within your means, i.e., swearing off all frivolities like some sort of financial anchorite, or you are ruining the economy by not buying things.

Oh hell yeah we did a group watch of this last night (I've seen it before a couple of times). It's such a fun film.

A picture showing a chocolate bar (could be Mars? Could be Snickers?) being pulled apart in the middle, revealing SHOCK a king's shilling and a letter of marque! There is text saying "PLEASE CHECK YOUR HALLOWEEN CANDY WITH CARE, I was shocked to find a shilling and letter of marque from the king!!!"

PLEASE BE VIGILANT! Am now a broken man on a Halifax pier!!

Happy Halloween folks! Who's coming to St George's tonight for some High Rollers?! Say hi if you catch us!

I've never been to PAX so I'm glad I don't have to miss out on the banners. These are always a treat

Streamed a little bit of The Sรฉance of Blake Manor on the TLJ Twitch channel, and it's very much my kind of thing. Extra special shoutout to the mention of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, which made me excitedly grab my Algernon Blackwood books off the shelf.
Can't wait to play more!

"Didn't the technofascists learn anything from Star Wars or Tolkien or other mass media" no because those are not parables and that is not how people learn how to be people. The chance of catching an antifascist subtext in mass-appeal fantasy is pretty low unless you've acquired those ideas already.

A large painting that is mostly red, with various small black objects scattered densely across a vast empty landscape and in the sky above the horizon

Here's something I regret. This painting was my attempt to show the relationship between anxiety and avoidance. The landscape is populated with all the thoughts and ideas you have when moving towards a goal. The sky is where you hang anything not related to your goal, to do later. Eventually, the landscape of your mind reaches a saturation point, and your "to-do list" in the sky becomes full. You become acutely aware of the weight hanging over you, so you avoid looking up, but your mind is so overpopulated that the anxiety is overwhelming.
You think, "If I can just get to my goal, then everything hanging over me won't matter." Soon, the joy of the goal withers away, and the sky becomes so heavy that it collapses onto you in an apocalyptic mental disaster, and that's when anxiety meets avoidance.
I understand this description is too intense for a wall label. So, when I first exhibited this work, I just wrote "Where's Waldo". One day, a man came up to me and said, "I've been searching for 4 hours and I can't find him". I paused awkwardly, long enough for him to scream, "Noooooooo!" and storm out. So, that's something I regret. But, who knows, maybe he's there.

Iโ€™ve been thinking about the show daily since I saw itโ€”his story, the Museum of Modernia, and especially this painting.

We tried to place this story - very expensive polling, the first of its kind, strong quantitative data about what trans people feel about Britain: bluntly there is no better way to tell the story - with the BBC but it said it was "too weak".

But it will pick up any old piece of transhating garbage.

Hey folks! Google is fucking you via sneaky enshittification again!
Want the shit in your google drive to load instantly again, instead of taking for-fucking-ever?
Open your gdrive (web OR app)
Settings > Manage Apps
Gemini was checked "use as default" (and i sure the fuck didn't set it that way, this was a silent push)
Nuke that, and suddenly, folders that took up to a minute to populate and sort do so in a fraction of a second.

I write middle-grade whodunnits, so you might want to dismiss my opinion out of hand. But I think cosy games/crime sometimes miss the fact that blankets are only cosy when it's cold outside. A world without conflict / a story without stakes isn't cosy, it's just safe.

Just a reminder that Clair Obscur was caught doing almost exactly the same thing FIRST (launching with some AI 'placeholder' textures that got patched) and yet somehow caught like a tenth of the flak.

Making an example of one while smiling and shrugging for the critical darling sits wrong with me.

The real question is: will it play well in a copyright lawsuit for Microsoft IP if you point out they didn't vigorously defend the government just straight up using the IP?

(Been wondering this for the Sora stuff too.)

Who Remembers Attention Spans? Why can't we focus on anything these days? Sean Morley takes a brief interlude from checking the latest death tolls to investigate our belief in the shrinking attention span.

My latest for @nowthenmag.bsky.social:
Who Remembers Attention Spans?

Half of people in the UK think their attention span has shrunk. With "doomscrolling" becoming an increasing concern for policymakers, I ask: but is this even real though?

Is this going to be another day when everyone involved in games talks around a particular event sparked by someone's comments without actually directly naming it or the people involved?
Maybe!

"Hello Sam, we've bloated your computer with AI slop to skim yet more data and slow things down!" is just a warning that I'll have to spend an hour trudging through individual settings channels to find buried options, and hope they've given me a toggle and it's not just "remind me later!"

You know, I honestly think I wouldn't mind, nearly as much, all the AI crap being added to Windows if they gave you an easy way to turn it off if you wanted. Let me find a unified page in Settings to disable the features I don't want! But no.
