From Garden to Wilderness We don’t usually wake up planning to distrust God. We wake up wanting coffee. Stability. A calm news cycle...for once. We want our aches to behave and our retirement accounts to hold steady. We want things to feel secure. That’s how it begins in Genesis. Not with open rebellion. With a question. “Did God really say…?” The serpent’s strategy in Genesis 3 wasn’t to introduce evil out of nowhere.

In a culture driven by fear, outrage, and political division, how we see people reveals who we really trust. We explore the Garden, the Wilderness, and the way Jesus challenges us to let go of control, stop reducing people to categories, and recover a faith rooted in trust, humility, and love.

A Beautiful Day in God’s Neighborhood On Transfiguration Sunday, the Church tells one of its strangest stories. In Gospel of Matthew 17:1–9, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain. His face shines. His clothes blaze white. Moses and Elijah appear. A cloud overshadows them. A voice declares, “This is my Son, the Beloved…listen to him.” It sounds mystical and distant. But it is not distant at all.

On Transfiguration Sunday, we explore how Jesus changes the way we see. In a culture shaped by fear and division, what would it mean for the church to truly see our neighbors through the light of Christ?

Transfiguration Sunday reminds us that God’s glory is revealed in the familiar face of Jesus—and in the way we love our neighbors. When we learn to see differently, ordinary life becomes holy. It’s a beautiful day in God’s neighborhood. #sermons #podcast tinyurl.com/2ta5swm2

You Are Special One of the quiet lies implanted into American culture is that people are only as valuable as what they produce. We rarely say it out loud, but we live like it’s true. Your worth is tied to your job title, your productivity, your politics, your usefulness, your ability to stay in line or stay relevant. Even compassion gets rationed. Some people “deserve” it.

We say everyone matters, but do we live like it? If Jesus was named “Beloved” before he proved anything, what does that mean for how we value people today?

Choosing to Forgive Something in Your Shoe...Besides Your Foot Last Sunday, we looked at Matthew 18:21–35, where Peter asks Jesus how many times he has to forgive someone. Peter, likely feeling pious, suggests seven times. Jesus counters with "seventy-seven times" (or "seventy times seven"), essentially telling us to stop counting. The sermon described holding a grudge as walking around with a small rock in your shoe.

We live in a culture that rewards outrage. But Jesus tells a different story: forgiveness isn’t weakness, it’s freedom. This week we get honest about resentment, revenge, and what faith looks like when we actually take Jesus seriously.

This week continues our Won’t You Be My Neighbor? series as we wrestle with forgiveness. Forgiveness is often emotional and complicated, but what if the person we’re really releasing is ourselves? And what if it’s possible to forgive while still setting healthy boundaries? tinyurl.com/4k95bwr7

When the world feels heavy, Jesus reminds us where to look.
In Matthew 25, neighbor-love moves beyond kindness into responsibility. Faith isn’t just about noticing the helpers — it’s about becoming one. tinyurl.com/bdh6vm7z

What Do You Do With the Mad You Feel? Anger is everywhere right now. It lives in our headlines, our social media feeds, and our family group texts. It shows up in traffic, at the grocery store, and at school board meetings. It’s become so normal that we hardly notice how sharp our words have become or how quickly we assume the worst about one another. Outrage has become the currency of our culture.

Anger is everywhere, but what if it’s driven more by fear than faith? This week we explore how outrage shapes our culture, how the church has responded, and what it means to handle anger in a way that looks more like Jesus.

It’s You I Like One of the quiet assumptions of American culture is that worth must be earned. We may not say it out loud, but we live like it’s true. You matter if you produce something. You matter if you succeed. You matter if you look right, vote right, believe right, say the right things at the right time. Even our failures are ranked.

In a culture that measures, labels, and divides, Scripture offers a different starting point: dignity before achievement. A candid reflection on grace, worth, and loving our neighbors well.

Psalm 139 reminds us that our worth comes from being created and known by God. When we release guilt and rest in grace, we become people who can love our neighbors with dignity and compassion. tinyurl.com/m6k5prx4

Who Is My Neighbor—Really? “Won’t you be my neighbor?” For many of us, that phrase immediately brings to mind cardigans, puppets, and a gentle voice reminding us that kindness matters. It sounds warm. Safe. Non-threatening. But when Jesus talks about neighbors, the question is much more disruptive. In Luke 10:25–37, Jesus is asked a question that we still ask today: What does it mean to live faithfully?

Loving your neighbor sounds simple—until Jesus defines who your neighbor really is.

Love All: Where Jesus Still Shows Up One of the challenging things about Jesus is that He rarely shows up where we expect Him to. We tend to look for Him in important places, places of influence. Big churches. Loud voices. Strong leaders. Cultural relevance. Political power. But when you pay attention to the Gospels, you realize Jesus moves in the opposite direction. He walks away from power.

Jesus didn’t chase power—He walked toward people.
This Advent, Love All calls us back to where Jesus still shows up: among the vulnerable, the forgotten, and the people we’re often tempted to ignore. Loving our neighbor isn’t easy, but it’s how the Christmas story continues in a divided world.

Spend Less. Give More. Every December I tell myself that I'm going to keep Christmas simple this year. I imagine quiet nights at home with Christmas movies and hot chocolate. Fewer errands and trips to the store. Less presents and more presence. I tell myself this year I won’t get pulled into the business of the holiday. And then December actually shows up. The music starts before Thanksgiving is finished.

In a season driven by pressure and consumption, Advent invites us to slow down, spend less, and give more. This reflection explores how turning toward Jesus reshapes Christmas—challenging American consumer culture and calling us back to presence, contentment, and what truly matters.

Worship Fully: Turning Our Hearts Toward What Matters We are well enough into December now that the holiday machine is running at full speed. Amazon trucks are everywhere, parties and programs fill our evenings, and the to-do list is getting to the point of urgency. And in the middle of all of that, there’s this whisper from the Christmas story that says, “Come back. Turn toward Jesus. This is what you’re actually looking for.”

This Advent, what (or who) is really at the center of your life? In a season full of noise, pressure, and endless to-do lists, “Worship Fully” invites us to turn our hearts back toward Jesus and reclaim the meaning of Christmas. A honest look at faith, attention, and what we’re really worshiping.

When Prayer Changes You: What Hannah Teaches Us About Not Giving Up There’s a moment in the story of Hannah that almost always gets overlooked. It happens right after she prays, long before anything in her life changes. It’s quiet, easy to miss, and honestly, many of us may not believe it’s even possible. But Scripture says it:“She went her way, she ate something, and her face was no longer downcast.”

The Quiet Work of Redemption We tend to think of God as working in the big moments, the lightning bolts, the miracles, the “aha” experiences. But what if most of God’s work doesn’t look like that at all? The story of Ruth and Boaz is a story of two ordinary people making everyday choices that, at first glance, don’t seem to change the world. Ruth was a widow, poor and foreign, just trying to survive.

In a world obsessed with power and spectacle, the story of Ruth and Boaz reminds us that God often works in quiet, ordinary moments. Faithfulness, integrity, and small acts of love still change the world.
