Peace, love and all the good stuff Photos my own unless it’s a repost “An artist cannot speak about his art any more than a plant can discuss horticulture” Jean Cocteau

A tight flock of red knots sweeps low over the shoreline of Lough Foyle, their pale winter plumage glowing creamy white against a soft blue-grey sea. Wings are fully outstretched and slightly blurred with motion, revealing silvery underwings edged in darker tips. Their short, straight bills point forward in unison as they bank together, yellow-green legs tucked neatly beneath streamlined bodies. Droplets of water hang in the air below them, suggesting they have just lifted from the tideline, moving as one coordinated wave over the calm coastal waters.

Interesting facts about red knots:
	•	Red knots are remarkable long-distance migrants, travelling up to 15,000 km between Arctic breeding grounds and wintering sites as far south as Africa and South America.
	•	In breeding plumage they turn a rich brick-red on the chest and face — a dramatic change from the pale grey winter tones seen here.
	•	Lough Foyle is an internationally important site for wintering waders, and red knots rely on estuaries like this to refuel on shellfish and small invertebrates.
	•	They can almost double their body weight before migration, storing fat to power nonstop flights over vast distances.
	•	Red knots often feed by touch, probing mudflats with sensitive bills to detect buried prey without needing to see it.

Rob @robcrank68.bsky.social has said today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #FourOrMore, captures of 4 or more birds in 1 photo, the Alt theme is #Blue, Blue in its plumage. Gone with Red Knots, migratory shorebirds, visit here in winter from arctic regions. #birds #EastCoastKin

Two black-headed gulls stand ankle-deep in a shallow pool on a muddy shoreline, their bright red legs and bills reflected clearly in the still water. One gull faces away with a dignified, slightly aloof posture, while the other throws its head back mid-call, beak wide open as if passionately making a point. Their mirrored reflections ripple beneath them—capturing the timeless scene of long-term partners at the water’s edge: one quietly contemplating life, the other absolutely certain they are right.

A dwarf Daffodil, Narcissus Tête-à-tête, its yellow petals covered in raindrops, stands proud, facing right on the left of the frame, with the bright orange central trumpet protruding and also covered in little jewel-like drops of water. The faded background in close-up macro mode is of the flower’s green leaves in a terracotta plant pot.

Hwyl is a Welsh word (pronounced “hoo-eel”) describing the state of joy when you are totally immersed in the moment … like photographing another #DailyDaffodil in the rain for tomorrow’s big day: Dydd Gŵyl Dewi (St David’s Day).

It’s a good example of how Labour have lost sight of their values in pursuit of racist and racist-adjacent voters.

Money greasing the way and opening doors is what has caused many of our problems.

Funnily enough, poor people can make great contributions to society given half a chance. Who knew?
