The boycott continues. #BoycottTarget

We Are Somebody stands on the shoulders of the movements that Clayborn Temple birthed, we are devastated by the news of the fire this morning.

The real reason will be this: Target CEO Brian Cornell, at a $19 million salary per year, made a bad decision and is passing the buck instead of taking real action to win back the trust of consumers.

No. The buck stops with the leader. Period.

We anticipate Target will attempt to say the reduction in hours will be due to either the boycott or the economy in an attempt to soften public perception of the boycott. It won’t work.

Collectively, people are stating that they’re not going back, we can afford to not spend money.

Target CEO Brian Cornell’s next step will possibly be cutting hours for workers due to a decision HE made.

In 1989, CEO-to-worker pay in the U.S. was 61:1.

Why does this matter? Because our boycott is working and we must hold people accountable. Target believes they can wait the people out but they believe incorrectly.

In 2024, Target CEO Brian Cornell made over $19 million, while the average Target employee made just over $26,000.

That means Target’s CEO-to-worker pay is 719:1, drastically higher than the U.S. average of 399:1, which is unacceptable in itself.

Since we’re Boycotting Target, let’s take a deeper look into the company, specifically at the CEO, who ultimately decided to bend to bigotry and roll back Target’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies. 🧵

Nina Turner, Tamika Mallory, and Pastor Jamal Bryant issued the following statement: "Easter Sunday was the final day of the 'Target Fast, which was part of the national Target Boycott. We are renewing our call to boycott Target on the grounds of the company reversing its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in response to legal threats from the Trump administration. Over the weekend, the three of us met with Target leadership and our takeaway is this: Target is feeling the power of our communities and wants this boycott to end. However, we believe that Target CEO Brian Cornell remains unaware of the betrayal felt by our communities due to his company's decision to cower to the Trump administration. Diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environments should be the hallmark of any company and/or government, it should be a source of pride. We are often asked “why only boycott Target.”

While there are many corporations worthy of a boycott, the decision to focus on one company has increased the effectiveness.

We will not stop with Target—we plan on making 2025 the year of the boycott.

This is the people’s boycott—since our call to #BoycottTarget, Target stock has fallen by roughly 30%.

Don’t EVER let anyone tell you we don’t have the power, collectively.
