'Misleading' school talks compared student loans to Β£30 phone contracts Graduates hired to deliver the presentations a decade ago were told to avoid using words like

The talks we received at Sixth Form for plan 1 loans told us they were interested free. I still don't understand why that's not a missold loan. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

For anyone who has had to use NHS mental health services, this will not be surprising. But it should be shocking to everyone. This is systematic avoidal of change and active threats to patient safety. And it seems like nobody (press, govt, NHS, clinicans) cares.

Most fundamentally, services must confront the embedded stigma throughout the entire NHS, which encourages mental health patient testimony to be automatically considered questionable, suspect, false, malicious, or mistaken. Without addressing epistemic injustice, there can be no reform.

Overall, the results found a fundamentally flawed and broken system which prioritises the containment & suppression of patient complaints, to prevent financial & reputational damage to NHS organisations & professionals; with regulatory bodies colluding in this silence.

I struggled with season 1 as well but it really finds it's stride in S2. Then the first couple of episodes of S3 are really bumpy and then it gets good again

Ha. Look at that, a clear record of where it all went wrong

(the book I read during my MA that made me both excited and furious and motivated me to try and write a PhD to disprove him)

Finally booked my trains and hotel for Leeds Disability Conference in April. Any recommendations for a quality vegetarian restaurant close to the train station/city centre?

While we develop a sharp focus on doing more work with fewer staff, we can also admire this new money pit (also it looks like they will be stripping the copper roof off the existing building which is a horrible way to hack up a Sir Basil Spence building)

Exactly. And with a high degree of autonomy, uncertainty isn't particularly alarmng. You can feel confident the solutions you will craft can address any challenges. Being told I need to plan for a future where I cannot make decisions how I work is definitely not an uncertainty issue. ARGH

24.02.2026 12:23 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

We are directed to staff wellbeing support on "coping with uncertainty". Uncertainty isn't the issue. I am certain conditions will worsen. Having no control over that and being gaslighted that we just need to have "sharp focus" to change that is the source of stress.

"With fewer staff, a sharper focus on priorities is essential to continue building on recent successes, growing strategically and sustainably, while maintaining staff wellbeing and manageable workloads"
How do VCs write this sort of thing? It's a logical impossibility.

I told my neighbours this with warm thanks, but I think the Ukrainian "step-grandfather" may have soured relations🫠 That and the rather tense discussion we had a few weeks later about whether "boat people" were raping girls in Southampton and Bournemouth. Sigh,

Does anyone know where you can buy Gulliver bars in the UK?

My Russian neighbours gave me a bag of sweets, had one of these in and unlocked an ancient childhood memory of having them at my Grandma's house (because her live-in boyfriend/partner was Ukranian)

I'd love to see the legal basis for "intend to seek damages for learning which students claim they paid for but did not actually receive."

You don't receive learning. It's an active, participatory process. You do not buy knowledge beamed to your brain

During/immediately post pandemic I heard a small minority of students complain they didn't "get the full student experience".

No kidding! I didn't get the full life experience. I didn't touch another living being for 3 months but I still had to teach from my dining table.

Students begin Covid compensation claim against 36 more universities It comes after University College London settled a claim from students there over lost learning in the pandemic.

"It's very simple, in English law if you paid for a five-star holiday and received a one-star holiday, you are entitled to compensation"

It is simple. University is not a holiday and you do not pay for an experience, you pay for access to tuition.

This is disgusting

What I wish I’d known before becoming a programme leader Becoming a programme leader means learning to lead without line management, protecting your boundaries, and playing the long game. Here, Tom Chapman reflects on what he’s learned during two decades in...

When people talk about the idea that some universities must go under, there’s a certain tendency to behave as if these smaller local campuses are negligible- regrettable casualties perhaps but not β€˜real’ universities. This report does a great job of illustrating why that’s wrong.

For some with mental illness, it’s not always good to talk | Psyche Ideas Well-meaning campaigns urge openness and conversation about mental health struggles. But there are those who cherish silence

"protective silences are easily confused with those imposed by stigma...β€˜If I don’t talk about my diagnosis...it’s not because I’m ashamed. It’s because I know not everyone deserves to access that part of me.’"
