I don't really know what it is about asymmetric fighting that tickles my brain. Maybe it's that seemingly-natural draw towards an underdog story, maybe it's me just being a dork, maybe it's some other third thing. But it's fun! I like it! (4/4)

And as many problems as Gundam SEED Destiny's writing had, one thing I did like was how crafty Shinn could be when he was piloting the Impulse. Chucking an exploding mech into a closing hatch to destroy the weapon inside, purging his modular parts at the right moment to get good hits in, etc. (3/4)

It was what I really liked in season 1 of Aldnoah.Zero, with the Martian super robots all having unique weaknesses that the protagonists had to discover and exploit, like using water flow to find the one part of a mech that wasn't covered with a barrier. We don't talk about season 2, though... (2/4)

I had a lot of downtime at work yesterday and finally got to read the Jade Evergreen story, and was reminded just how much I like some good ol' fashioned combat pragmatism. I really enjoy seeing characters think on their feet and/or strategize around countering a stronger foe. (1/4)
