Interesting to read. A couple of vicars have explained bit to me before about how it worked from their perspective.
I was wondering if you read the Merrily Watkins series?

Only Boro fans...

It was only Wednesday I was reading Boro fans on Facebook say he should never play for Boro again!

Exactly. It helped me enjoy the UEFA Cup games regardless of results.
Against Sporting when 2-0 down a dad left, taking his 2children, both of whom wanted to stay. He moaned about rubbish football etc. Several people tried to get him to have some perspective & just watch the match but to no avail

Like the number of times I've read that Assombalonga being the worst striker in Boro's history. Can't they recall Lee Miller and Dong Gook Lee? And what would they have made of early 80s Boro with Andy Crawford and Garry MacDonald!

I think there's a feeling that Premier League management on your CV opens a lot of doors, even if you failed.
Although sounds like it is closeness to family home which may have swung it.
Think it's a bad decision though

Lovely map. Vaguely recognise it as used to work for WAAS.

Lovely autumnal visit to @nationaltrust.org.uk Saltram with the kids this week. Great trees and autumnal colours, and a beastly beings trail that had actual proper (local) folklore. All ended with an obligatory cream tea.

No. Just need a sharp knife and a spoon. A bit tougher than pumpkins but only took 5-10 minutes.

a tray of soul cakes

Soul cakes ready for tonight, All Saints day & All Souls day (if they last that long! Wondering if I can persuade the rest of the family that we give these out tonight instead of sweets!

Back in the mid 80s when we went out on Halloween, and when you had to sing a song or do something more than just say 'trick or treat', we sang this song at houses. Didn't realise where it came from.

I got the annual. All the stories inside were along similar lines of Folk horror

Time to place bets on him being man of the match and keep a clean sheet

It was the Conservatives who withdrew English teams from Europe due to fan violance. (UEFA then banned us too), planned to bring in supporter ID cards & considered whether the football league could carry on in its format due to hooligans.
And who was 'Honest Bob' supporting in the away end anyway?

I spent 40 years campaigning for supporters' rights, was a founder member of the FSA and wrote extensively about the tensions between 'proper' fans, hooligans & police. I crossed swords with clubs & politicians. I never thought a top Tory would publicly support the boot boys as 'good natured fun'.

Disappointed by the pumpkin carving. It should be turnips!

Helpful review. I read Steeple Chasing and had spotted this one, and wondered what it would be like. I'm looking forward to it now

Loved the result. But also reminded me of the embarrassing FA Cup exit to 4th division Grimsby in 1989 which seemed to signal the end of of our resurgence. Fortunately Sutton beat holders Coventry that day so we weren't the biggest shock that day.

Oooh, that must have been good, especially after hours. I've wondered about what it must be like to stay there.

Visited Portmerion 3 or 4 times. Favourite visit was in early March when hardly anyone there & you could go long periods of time without seeing another person. Really eerie!

In Aberystwyth they were very clear it was 'The Full Welsh' instead at a hotel, which was identical

One reason for Bishop of Worcester residence being moved from Hartlebury Castle was that part of the castle was rented out to the county museum & one Bishop was known to go over and complain about events if he felt they were too noisy.

I found Unis could be bad too. £80 for a 2 hour workshop (10 years ago) for students with archive documents was considered excessive, & some sessions stopped, despite them having a budget for this. But then they were happy paying hundreds of pounds in fees & expenses to visiting academics they knew

It is indeed worth a read, but raises more questions. She issues a general denial but skirts around some of the specific accusations without saying they are incorrect. The health letters seem to show her timeline was misleading & the diagnosis wasn't as bad as implied
