At the Battle of Antietam, 23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded or missing after 12hrs of savage combat on September 17, 1862. The Battle ended the Army of Northern Virginia's invasion into the North and led Abraham Lincoln to issue the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation.

A3: Project ANY image or artwork from history and have students make some inferences. My fav is Washington Crossing the Delaware. Then you can have students write a letter as one of the soldiers, or ask questions like would the sun be coming from that direction or why is Washington posing? #tlap

A4: You can teach the Virginia Reel for Civil War era dances. For acting / performing, I have shown teachers how to do interviews with historic figures. Have one student research a character and then have another interview them. Promotes research, writing and speaking. #tlap
