Jayce almost perfectly embodies the “death of the empath” trope, but he doesn’t fall into a jaded personality type. He regains his empathy. He embraces Viktor and sacrifices everything because he believed the way to make the world better was to remove them from the equation.

It’s not a shift he willingly makes, either. It’s something that’s imposed upon him as the weight of the world and his responsibilities grow heavier. That’s what makes his journey so tragic.

In my opinion, Jayce is by far the most empathetic character in Arcane. His entire development centers around how others force him to become less empathetic.

Viktor stands baring his chest and stomach while Jayce holds him from behind and kisses his shoulder blade.
