In my dystopian sci fi WIP, Raymond always dresses impeccable for work, suit and tie, but he rarely wears casual clothing, even at home. He might shed his suit jacket and his tie. No shoes, of course, he likes his flat cleaned to perfection, and makes sure River does it, or else..

Not so much the pain from that wound, but more the abuse and the pain related to it. River lives alone with Raymond who is violent, it's also a psychologically nigh unbearable environment. That's what's changing him.

When River first meets Ciel, it's in Raymond's flat, when Ciel and his owner arrive there. He knows they'll have sex later in the evening, but he's relieved when he can disappear in the kitchen to prepare dinner. (cw injury, allusion to past abuse)

From what I can see from.the story, the psychological impact of constantly being in pain and living in fear is profoundly going to change River, from an ordinary guy who was scared of everything to a ruthless leader filled with spite and a thirst for revenge.

In my dystopian sci fi WIP, River gets shot in the right thigh at the start of the story and is left with pain and a limp after being patched up. He also has numerous scars from being beaten up by Raymond,his owner.
