Outlines an agenda to reduce systemic blockers, build resilience, design more robust policy. #aieducation www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
17.07.2025 13:38 β π 6 π 3 π¬ 0 π 0Our enterprising technology teacher did build a personalised response system comprising 30 boxes connected by wires back to his desk and an array of lights. Very cool.
20.06.2025 09:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I never had the pleasure of using a language lab. EdTech in my school was one teletype terminal for the school where we typed programs in FORTRAN then the teacher put the paper tape in the post and we received the printed error messages a week later (yes, really).

Another UK university drops big Elsevier deal
The @york.ac.uk has opted out of a subscription deal with the academic publishing giant Elsevier, saying it needs to adopt a βmore financially sustainable approachβ, @resprofnews.bsky.social has learned.

GenAI is revolutionizing educationβbut at what cost?

Building well-conceived tools for students on an open foundation model with user data remaining within the institution is a good thing. Training a large language model at huge cost for each state isn't.
27.11.2024 05:33 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Is the EU now so fragmented that each member country feels the need for its own LLM to protect national security?
26.11.2024 21:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I hear that EU countries are planning to build their own national LLMs - France (already, with Mistral), Germany, Netherlands, Norway and doubtless others, in the belief that only their own AI model will match their language, culture and security. National necessity, or a waste of money and energy?
26.11.2024 20:41 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 3 π 1I'm concerned about the further industrialisation of teaching - where online tutors work to the rhythm of AI advisors.
26.11.2024 06:12 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I thoroughly enjoyed the event. Some excellent insights from Tom and Hazel at the N-TUTORR project, transforming learning.
24.11.2024 09:58 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Valid concerns. AI cheating is now not new, and universities have to rethink assessment. I don't hear concerns about senior management using AI to cut academic jobs - in fact the converse, of increased workload in adapting to an AI-saturated world.

From my talks with unis about GenAI, main concerns are data security and accuracy of responses. Worth considering open-model GenAI - free to use, can run locally, now as powerful as GPT-4, no data sent outside, can be customised. HuggingChat gives chat access to multiple models. huggingface.co/chat/
