I’m talking to you, Idaho. Who is currently trying to pull money AWAY from our public schools. Who resentfully “enforces” federal standards. Their special education oversight is a joke. Their education manual is copied and pasted from federal guidelines with inconsistent enforcement across schools.

Also guess how many states find the federal funding and regulations insufficient and choose to supplement spending with their own funds, and raise standards for their schools? Who have already essentially taken control over education in their state?

IF THEY WANTED TO, THEY WOULD.

I keep hearing that the federal government doesn’t reimburse enough for education.

Friends. Buddies. Why do you think the government will suddenly spend more in every state once rules and standards are gone?

Some folks are saying that closing the Dept of Ed will help states control education better… all I’m hearing is that their minimum standards are too high. That the IDEA is unnecessary. That equal access to education is unimportant.

Federal laws provide a BARE MINIMUM for how things must operate within states. Without that oversight, many states will simply choose not to adopt all or many of the same standards. When people say they want control to go back to the states, they think these minimums are too high.

MAGA lost their damn minds over the email lady's private server, but are crickets over Elon's 19-year-old "Big Balls" guy having access to all of our private info.

When someone expresses genuine regret voting for Trump, the best thing we can do is welcome them into the fold. We're not gonna get anywhere with ridiculous gatekeeping and pettiness. Let's offer folks an off-ramp into the coalition of reasonable adults.

Today the housing nonprofit world is in chaos, along with many others operating on federal grants. Trump has signed an order halting all funding of certain types of federal grants and this is leaving agencies and organizations all over the country panicking, scrambling 🧵
