TLDR and take-home key points:

✅ PTZ 3.375g IV Q6H is effective for MIC ≤8 mg/L

✅ Neither standard nor high-dose achieves 90% PTA for MIC ≥16 mg/L w/ short infusions

✅ Extended infusions are key for high-MIC infections!

Thanks for this interesting paper. Note that this is a small study using a surrogate outcome, personally I wouldn't immediately conclude that it actually works for stone prevention, don't you think?

using a beta-blocker to treat vasoconstriction can precipitate hypoperfusion, because you’re not fixing the problem #EMIMCC

Last year, the Canadian Medical Association Journal published an article on a scurvy case in Toronto.

Scurvy is almost never in advanced countries like Canada.

This year we learned of 27 more cases in the Lac La Ronge Indian Band in Saskatchewan.

According to Dr. Goldman, 780 family doctors left the public system in Quebec in 2023, vs. only 14 in the rest of Canada. How can we avoid a downward spiral for our public system and our patients' access to care?

According to the authors, simply because "in our dataset, the vast majority (76–82%) of them originated from conservative news domains". The discrepancy is therefore probably due to the databases used. A bit misleading 😉
