Our lighting designers are putting the new lighting system through its paces to ensure that everything is responding just as it should. Usually, the lights will be white, but the new colour options offer some exciting possibilities 🌈

New bridge master appointed for Clifton Suspension Bridge Tristan Ralph succeeds Trish Johnson, who has held the role since October 2016

He brings 30 years of experience in engineering to the role and will help balance essential conservation work with innovation, ensuring the historic bridge remains safe while protecting its heritage for the future.

A diversion route will be signed, using Bridge Valley Road, Brunel Way and A369 Rownham Hill and traffic following the official signed diversion routes from the bridge during these times will be exempt from Bristol City Council’s Clean Air Zone.

Thank you for your patience and understanding over the last two years, as this once-in-a-generation refurbishment project was undertaken, and we’re looking forward to its conclusion in the spring.

You’ll once again be able to enjoy the bridge illuminated in the warm, white light you know and love from dusk to midnight across this holiday season (and beyond).

Maybe you’ve already seen the bridge illuminations as the lighting trials have been carried out, but we are pleased to say that the two-year refurbishment project to paint the bridge’s 180-year-old suspension chains is in its final stages. Here’s what it means for you, the illuminations are back on!

All this while half of the bridge was closed for the entire year. We can't wait to see what 2026 brings!

This year the museum had:

- 65,000 visitors
- 8,400 purchases through the gift shop
- 4,000 people on tours into the vaults
- 3,200 hours of generously given volunteer time
- 2,500 students on education visits

We're a bit early, but as we're winding down at the #CliftonSuspensionBridge museum for a bit of time off over Christmas, it felt like the perfect time to share our 2025 wrapped to shout about what we're proud of! 💫
