31.10.2025 11:09 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0There was a "virtual" Halloween thing yesterday. Supposedly some people dressed up, but so many weren't in the office that late (4p here) and I had meetings. The office is decorated with various things for the holiday and lots of sweets around

The builder gets their specific plans, and they know what to do. That's the output of the tool.

My analogy was building a house. An architect uses his CAD software or paper to design things and ensure the various layers (structure, electric, etc.) fit together well.
That's the ERD tool. Changes to it get pushed into building plans, and

Very few people seem to do the modeling in a visual way anymore. Some to think about data modeling and design, but many don't.
Do any of you use ERDs regularly?|
Is there a good analogy to explain this to others and get them to think about using them?
4/
However, it got me thinking. I haven't bothered to work with ERDs much over the last decade. Tools too expensive, and the SSMS diagrams weren't that friendly.
I do miss seeing the connections and visualizing how complex my design is getting. Same for many customers.

It was interesting to try and explain this to more layman or junior level tech people. Why is this valuable, and why is it better/different than Dependency Tracker (it's more complementary)

Trying to explain the reason why people might want Redgate Data Modeler to a few sales reps today. This is a new tool from Redgate, letting you build/modify ERDs.

It's partially a hassle, but mostly it seems like a poor way to auth age. Plus a security risk

29.10.2025 20:38 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Crazy. Got a note on Bluesky that the UK has an age law so they need to verify me. I can use a credit card (not) or a face scan that estimates by age.
How does this in any way get written into law?
