I appreciate the progress the DMV has made. Commissioner Tine and I will keep working to make sure North Carolinians visiting the DMV can get in, get out, and get on with their day.

Brunswick County is the fastest-growing county in NC and the 11th-fastest-growing county in the country, which means lots of new North Carolinians need to take care of business at the DMV. New DMV offices like the one in Leland mean shorter lines and faster services for everyone.

Every North Carolinian should be protected from dangerous forever chemicals like PFAS. Thanks to an investment from the state, 230 more homes will get connected to a water system with a filtration system that ensures they can enjoy clean drinking water.

FEMA needs to act with greater urgency approving & distributing relief funds to the people and communities of western NC as we continue to rebuild after Hurricane Helene. I look forward to working with Senator Mullin, the newly tapped Secretary of DHS, and his team at FEMA to deliver for western NC.

All three of our kids went through and graduated from Wake County schools, so it was a special honor to be at this year’s Pieces of Gold celebration.

These talented young people reflect the very best of our public education system!

I will keep working to accelerate progress so North Carolinians have the certainty they deserve.

This is a step in the right direction for WNC homeowners who have been in limbo waiting to be bought out for months, but there are still hundreds of families waiting for answers on their damaged or destroyed properties in flood zones.

UPDATE: Yesterday FEMA announced more than $11 million for its Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.

North Carolina led the nation in fourth-quarter employment gains in 2025.

Since January 2025, we’ve announced more than 37,000 new jobs and more than $26 billion in economic development investment – the best year for job announcements in state history. Let’s keep up North Carolina’s momentum!

While we’ve got lots of work still to do, we are making progress in our Hurricane Helene recovery, and I look forward to continue working with federal partners to get western NC the resources needed for rebuilding.

GOOD NEWS: Nearly $70 million in FEMA funds will be coming to reimburse local governments in Avery, Buncombe, and Yancey counties.

It was an honor to be with members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated today in Raleigh. I look forward to continuing to work together in the fight for policies that will build a safer and stronger North Carolina.

NC is committed to creating more pathways to health care careers, and I urge the Department of Education to reconsider.

By 2038, North Carolina will need an additional 25,710 nurses to meet the demands of our rapidly growing state. Right now, we should be doing everything we can to attract health care workers. Instead, this proposed rule will impede our efforts to expand nursing education across NC.

We are seeing a nationwide nursing shortage, and the U.S. Department of Education’s proposed rule to exclude nursing degrees from the definition of professional degrees could exacerbate this issue in North Carolina.

That’s why my budget request to the General Assembly includes expanding the Science of Reading curriculum to more grades and the Advanced Teaching Roles initiative.

Anna and I stopped by Ms. Winnix’s second grade class at Green Magnet Elementary for Read Across America Day.

Investing in the future of North Carolina means investing in our kids and making sure they have the resources they need to excel in the classroom and beyond.

I join all of North Carolina in mourning the three American service members who died in the Iran attacks. Anna and I are praying for their families. May the memories of these heroes be a blessing.

Overnight, North Carolina suffered a tragedy when another state trooper was killed in the line of duty in a traffic crash. Master Trooper Steven Perry dedicated his career to keeping people in Durham County safe.

The people of western North Carolina deserve our level best, and I remain committed to working alongside our federal and state partners to accelerate their recovery.

I continue to urge DHS both to act swiftly to ensure local governments receive quick reimbursements for storm-related expenses and to approve the buyouts of people’s property in the flood zones.

I’d like to thank our federal partners, particularly the North Carolina Congressional delegation, for their work to unstick this much-needed assistance.
