i was talking to my mom about cardassians and said something along the lines of what must it be like to be a cardassian civilian. like abstractly knowing the rest of the galaxy thinks of your species as 'the evil ones' and kinda sorta knowing your government runs labor camps and torture prisons and is a military empire, and it's a huge deal for everyone else in the galaxy, but you just like run a restaurant so it's not a big part of your daily life, so you just like, go about your day and make soup and don't think about it' and then halfway through my sentence i actually heard myself and then had to go sit down for like ten minutes. like sat down in a chair and stared at the floor for ten minutes

Gotta admit it is a nice perk, worth the trade off of feeling silly for insisting on Dr

Full disclosure I finally started putting spaces in file names because macos’s increasingly garbage search function seems to do better when words are separated out

Very relevant! I think a lot of people’s experience of gender is hard to classify so I’m very interested in how people deal with those in between spaces

nonbinary people, how do you signal to others that you are nonbinary? how/when do you correct/inform people when they get it wrong? when do you bother to correct vs. let it slide? how do you deal with people "backsliding" into misgendering?

**NEW POST**

LLMs hallucinate, & they hallucinate WORSE on topics we don't already know/write a lot about. This creates a huge accuracy gap.

This week I tested ChatGPT on Beethoven & Smyth to show how big this gap is & why it matters. It made up a LOT.

It's funny how much MTV both promoted and made fun of grunge. Burned into my memory for some reason is an interstitial with a guy in a domokun (?) suit dancing around and singing "Jeremy's broken, oy vey"

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...
