The order of science:

1.) Discover there’s a deadly problem
2.) Work for years to solve it
3.) The problem may not be gone forever, but we’ve won
4.) People forget the deadly problem actually existed
5.) People decide this must mean the science to solve it was a hoax
6.) The deadly problem returns

Same, for the same reasons πŸ˜…

I don't love the nunjucks syntax but I like it better than liquid or handlebars.

I've also used plain JS templates for things that need more logic.

I think its a 2004 Shimano Altus, luckily not that bent.

Yeah anything without a build step works fine. But if you're trying to get a 2010 Grunt.js config to work - oooph

I'm fixing up an old mountain bike that's been in the shed for 15 years. Some parts need replacing, but all in all pretty straightforward.

I wish software worked like that. If I try to fix a 15yo website, I'd spend days fighting deprecated dependencies.

Feels very close to the metal, 100% control of the data structures and markup. πŸš€

Links? Links! - Infrequently Noted Alex Russell on browsers, standards, and the process of progress.

I spent hours and hours trawling through the sites of some of the world's best web developers, and despite the horrors I regularly experience in my daily work in Big JavaScript Territory, what I saw left me hopeful:

Back in the day, Twitter used to be really good if I set up a thread to connect freelancers with clients. Let's see if Bluesky can do it.

Clients: if you're looking for freelancers/contractors, get in the comments
