But computer still contain joy, so we soldier on.

I spend 1.5 years doing this. Full rewrite last summer and another partial rewrite last month. As Hemingway said: "First draft of everything is always shit".
Support the development of Godot! Donate Now
This has been a great year for the engine, but there are still a lot of things we would love to do.
If each person visiting our website donated β¬5, we could hire 5 more developers to work on Godot full-time.

Game titles would be weird if they were all as uncertain as "Devil May Cry":
Papers Perhaps
Shouldn't Starve
Life is moderately Strange
It probably Takes Two
I may or may not be be Bread
They are Billions-ish

This is literally what people do when they're not left scrambling for survival every hour of every day. They build communities, create things, contribute. Wikipedia isn't an anomaly, it is a distillation of human nature itself

As the one that added that, thanks for mentioning it, but in this age its sadly getting a bit dated. Many consumer routers now disable it by default.
Prefer either dedicated servers/relay servers/STUN/TURN/NAT hole punching.
The talk I gave at GDC got uploaded!
If your are curious to know a bit more about the process behind the engine, this should give you a good idea of how the Godot Foundation + Contributors + Companies collaborate on making Godot.

Collage of four images showing the different maps composing the G-Buffer of the deferred renderer prototype discussed in the post. The maps are as follows: - Albedo - Normal - Position - Final Render
Small prototype of a deferred renderer in Godot 4.4. I managed to implement everything directly in GDScript using the built-in RenderingDevice APIβno engine recompilation needed. The amount of features accessible this way is just impressive.

I don't think I have the data to say one way or the other. I think overall, our current IP laws and DRM do more harm than good for society (not necessarily companies) however.

"Locks are to keep the honest men out", and all that. And yet we try to invent and build strong locks.
Would Witcher 3 have sold more copies if it released with DRM? Would Minecraft ever have become so big if there was no easy sharing and modding?
Yes. No. Maybe."Is DRM useful or futile?" is seemingly an ongoing discussion (in both business and society) for a reason. How hard it needs to be to circumvent also, if less so. Consider having any DRM at all already changes legal implications in a lot of jurisdictions, regardless how bad.
17.05.2025 14:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I guess game streaming would be the one way to solve it. Would be hell for other freedoms though.
