My sweet girl Shadow ❤ Shadow was one of my first rats, and the one who made me fall in love with rats as pets. She was super confident and sweet, she loves to cuddle up and chill together and she was also incredibly easy to train with!

Feta is learning to pick out her name from a lineup (using scent work - rats don't have the best vision!) - this was at the end of the session and Feta got a bit distracted lol, but she still did a great job!

Tofu says she's an old lady and sometimes that means she just can't wait! Luckily rats have very easy to clean up turds lol, and not to worry Tofu, I still think your cute!

Pumpkin Seed is learning to fetch from a drawer! Pumpkin is more of a snuggler than trainer, but ever so often she wants to pitch in and learn what the others are, and this time she got down drawer fetch!

Cream here was another of my girls who perfected the "sleep like the dead"! Like Bean she liked to sleep on her back, and it was always a bit terrifying coming to the cage and seeing her just chilling on her back, completely dead to the world!

Latte doing her "read" a sign trick! Of course rats can't read, however they can learn to respond to certain movements as a cue, and here me flipping the sign was the cue for the next step!

Another cage cleaning, and this time I gave the girls a slightly Valentine's themed cage setup! Very happy to finally use the Ratty Box S'more hide as well, its super cute and the girls have been loving cuddling in it!

Jellybean is learning to fetch from the mini ferris wheel! I recently had this fun idea of using the ferris wheel to make scent work more exciting - but 1st I have to introduce the ferris wheel.

One of my favorite clips of Espresso and Bean - Espresso was very much a gentle leader when it came to the other rats...except when it came to Bean lol. Bean was, how should I put it...a little turd lol, so it was rather understandable :P

Here was Bean learning to use a light switch! This was such a fun trick to work on, and it was really neat seeing Bean learn how to nudge the switch on no matter where I put it. Great job Bean!

I can't be the only one who hears this whenever they see videos of intact male rats running around right?! 🫣

Crumb and Cracker are learning to fetch a tissue! Crumb in particular has never fetched anything that isn't a mini wiffle ball, so this is a big step for her - great job girls!

This clip cracks me up every time, poor Bean snagged her cape on the mailbox and immediately decided to go down fainting goat style lol. After that she had no problems continuing to do this trick!

As a rat owner I find these clips of Crumb boggling in slow-mo super cute, since I know it means she is very happy and comfortable! As a non rat owner though I would probably think Crumb was about to explode lol...kinda funny how that goes!

One of my favorite Egg clips showing off just how crazy agile rats are! Here she executed a perfect side flip with zero prep from a static standing position and walked it off like it was nothing - I wish I was half as agile as rats are, its crazy what they can do!

Practice makes perfect - and the same goes for training any new trick with the rats! Here I compiled a few of Espresso's attempts when learning the BBQ trick - she was a bit confused, but she figured it out in the end!

One of the reasons I love the wider wheels is because rats can run in pairs on them (or trios if they are dwarfs!) - in the case of my chin sprint (this wheel) my rats have all enjoyed using it both as singles and as pairs!

Coffee is working on her drawer fetch trick! She even encouraged her tiny friend Pumpkin Seed to also learn how to open the drawer - great job Coffee!

One of the amazing things about rats is that each has such a unique personality. Take Bean for example - despite being a feeder rat who had some fairly bad experiences early on in life, she was such a sweet and outgoing rat who loved every person and rat she met!

So its been a long while since Cracker practiced her barrel walking + fetch trick, so I thought it would be fun to do a bit of a touch-up session. Great job Cracker!

So like half the US my area has a snowstorm bearing down on us, and while I wait to see how much snow we get I thought it'd be fun to post one of my favorite clips of miss Egg encountering snow for the first time. Egg was OBSESSED with snow...specifically with STASHING it😅

Tofu when she was first learning ring toss (well ring stacking lol)! Tofu is a proper old lady now and prefers to observe more than train, but in her younger days she was quite the fetch master! Great job Tofu!
