These campfire traditions make such great memories. And a beach fire is extra magical.

On July 4th we used to have campfires on Channel Beach, Cuttyhunk Island, before setting off the fireworks. Summer New England! #thecampfire

While gardening, I came across two Southern Alligator Lizard (Elgaria Multicarinata), a pleasant surprise. Watered around it so it didn't startle and scurry. The other one was in the Eden's Rose section and scurried.

Darkness Prevails

Flames, once fierce gasp their last in feeble flickers,
their golden bravado reduced to ash-choked whispers.
The embers, fallen stars of the hearth, darkened ash,
each a tiny funeral pyre into grey and lifeless dust.

Thank you Pete, it was heartbreaking, my great grandmother was a force that we feared even after she was bedridden, my dad lived easier after her death but years later took his own life

Gray, first sympathy on the loss of your stepfather and wow how frightening it must have been to think of the dire possibilities of your illness, especially with a family and young children. I can say that it brought you to another path and a happier one I hope. Great courage of you and your wife

My girls, stepdad Rik, and me twenty-one years ago in 2004, outside the children’s museum in Chicago.

Early 2004, my step-father Rik with the girls and me visiting the Chicago Children’s Museum.

He died a few months ago, a few days after my son and I’d visited him, on his first morning skiing in some years, probably due to heart failure.

My story from 20 years ago below.
