Kiyoomi’s moral compass wins out and they end up in a back room of the bar, with a barely sanitized needle and both doctor and patient stumbling around trying to close up the wound.

Atsumu ends up with 16 stitches instead of 8 (seeing doubles, remember?) but their first mate will live another day.

Atsumu takes the whisky and glass in front of Kiyoomi and throws back two big gulps. “There, now we’re even—stitch me up!”

Kiyoomi squints, trying to see straight. “I was on three.”

“Fine, bastard,” Atsumu says and throws back one more. “Fer luck.”

“I’m drunk, Atsumu, I can’t help you right now.”

Atsumu surveys the bar, finds few other customers. Suddenly, he grabs Kiyoomi’s hand to feel it. “Seems steady enough, come on then!”

Kiyoomi hands looks blurry to him, and they certainly don’t feel steady. “I don’t think this is a good idea.”

His shirt is bright red on his left side and Kiyoomi knows he’s going to have to deal with it. But he’s already three glasses deep.

“Omiiii, got a job fer ya—shit, are ya drunk?”

“Go find someone else.”

“No one else can stitch like ya. Come on Omi, I doubt Joffe wants blood all over his floor!”

Where Kiyoomi is the ship’s doctor and Atsumu the first mate who often gets into a bit of trouble.

It’s on a day off that Kiyoomi can relax, so he goes into town for a few glasses of whisky. He’s pleasantly drunk and only seeing double a bit when the door opens and Atsumu bursts in.

He broke off and looked up, almost daring the voice to see what he’s done. Daring for it to separate them again.

It wouldn’t matter.

For Kiyoomi.

“You didn’t repent,” Kiyoomi said, reaching to run his hand across his lover’s cheek.

“I could never deny you,” Atsumu whispered, and tumbled forward into Kiyoomi’s arms. Kiyoomi caught him easily, gasping when Atsumu surged against his mouth with the desperation of a starved beast.

The change was instant—the chill was replaced by a burning inferno, and Kiyoomi struggled to keep his eyes open to see his surroundings.

He was about to shield his eyes when something wrapped around his wrist. Whirling around he looked into the eyes of Miya Atsumu, bright and burning with love.

“That is a lie.”

“He has already repented, he will not join you in your eternal punishment. I will ask again, will you repent?”

Kiyoomi balled his fists and stared upward, to whatever deity saw fit to judge him. “I would do it again; in every life, every time, I would do it again.”

“The crime of your murder, however, offers a chance of redemption. Will you repent of your sin to join the heavenly chorus?”

Kiyoomi lifted his chin high in the air, a deep glare etched onto his face as he replied “I will not repent.”

“Your lover, Miya Atsumu, has already repented.”

“Sakusa Kiyoomi,” a voice said, and the calmness sent a chill running down Kiyoomi’s spine.

“For crimes of lust and adultery, you will be sent to the second circle for eternity. The punishment is just.”

“The punishment is just,” Kiyoomi repeated, looking to see any sign of the voice’s bearer.

He didn’t know where he was, this black void offering no answers when he looked around. There was no shadow or reflection under his feet; though they looked submerged in water, he could not tell whether they were cold from the wetness or the chill in the air.
