reCAPTCHA: 819 million hours of wasted human time and billions of dollars in Google profits New research reveals Google's reCAPTCHA system primarily serves as a tracking tool, generating billions in revenue while offering minimal protection against bots.

Google's use of reCAPTCHA to collect juicy data to target their ads has cost us 819 million frustrating hours. With the average person living to 72, this is 1,298 entire human lives wasted, from birth to death, clicking on little squares. Come on. We can do better.
