Never left. Positive & negative eugenics have been consistent features of U.S. economic, social, and health policy.

- How "families"/"households" are defined for the purpose of eligibility for benefit (e.g. tax credits)

1. Yesterday, the FTC held a panel with anti-trans activists meant to justify charging providers of gender affirming care with fraud.
It is yet another avenue the Trump administration is trying to use to target trans care nationwide.

The United States and Brazil appeared to have launched a sudden trade war on Wednesday.
Trump writes one of the most unhinged letters ever produced by an American president, demanding the right to interfere with Brazilโs case against Bolsinaro and threatening huge tariffs if they donโt let him walk free, and this your lede?

Hey folks, the Cass Report has been critiqued a lot of doctors and researchers as junk science.
My personal favorite is the team of doctors and lawyers at major research universities: law.yale.edu/sites/defaul...
Hereโs another one published by UK doctors: link.springer.com/content/pdf/...
Research article entitled "Politics without Presence? The Symbolic Representation of Trans People in Germany and the Netherlands" by Anne Louise Schotel and Liza Mรผgge. Abstract begins: Historically, trans people have been excluded from politics. Despite political under representation, trans interests increasingly appear on the political agenda in the Netherlands and Germany. In 2021, trans women were elected to the Dutch and German parliaments for the first time. However, increased trans visibility is accompanied by backlash and transphobia. The political representation of trans people does not follow a familiar pattern from elected descriptive representatives to increased substantive representation of interests. What mechanisms shape the political representation of trans people? We argue that symbolic representation shapes possibilities for descriptive and substantive representation of trans people.

Democrats who stop doing stuff like this as soon as the winds change are making it *very clear* what we knew all along: that they will only do the bare minimum and only if there are zero consequences to them. the exact opposite of having principles

30.06.2025 16:10 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The Society for Evidence Based Medicine (funded by the ADF) spends millions each year promulgating anti-trans pseudoscience with a secret goal: policies that move the ball forward for Christian nationalist principles.
Unfortunately, these goals rob some of the most vulnerable kids of survival 6/6
These same studies were also referred to by Alito during Skrmetti oral arguments, showing that pseudoscienceโs reach extends beyond state legislatures and shapes court opinions w/ huge consequences for kids and their families 5/6
30.06.2025 15:48 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0They also consistently refer to the UKโs Cass Review as a reason to strip transgender youth and their family of their rights.
The Cass Review has been roundly critiqued for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that not a single PI provides gender-affirming care 4/6
For example, proponents of attacks on transgender children frequently cite a 2011 Swedish study, which they claim shows that gender-affirming care increases suicide rates.
They make this claim over and over again DESPITE the study authors clarifying that these WEREN'T their findings 3/6
One of the most interesting and consistent findings was that US lawmakers leaned heavily on European studies to justify the proposed prohibitions on kids accessing healthcare 2/6

Surprise surprise. A week after Sarah McBride gives cover fire for throwing trans people under the bus, some Dems are privately indicating theyโll capitulate on trans youth healthcare and citing the pseudoscientific Cass Report literally drafted in consultation with hate groups.

A victory would be profoundly meaningful for where progressives move from here, in a time where monied interests are trying to urge a rightward movement in the Democratic Party.

1. On Tuesday, Congresswoman Sarah McBride gave a interview with Ezra Klein at the New York Times.
It has been used to seed the ground for a rightward shift in the Democratic Party on trans rights.
Some allies have failed to grasp the problems with her approach.
Here's what McBride gets wrong.
I want to emphasize Max's point bc the law is outrageous
It explicitly grants or withholds medical treatment based on sex
It expressly aims to force trans kids to conform to their sex assigned at birth
It's a frontal assault on trans kids and the Constitution
