I think his point is that Lab’s obsession with immigration is both losing voters like you and not addressing the core economic insecurity of the “hero voters”. I read it as a repudiation of Mahmood’s strategy actually although obviously he can’t be too unsubtle about it.

Who actually were the Hero Voters? Labour won in 2024 because of economically insecure voters, not social conservatism.
