"If more of us valued food and cheer above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world." -- Thorin Oakenshield. Getting THAT quote properly attributed in advance just in case that Finch App attributes it to the wrong person. :)

I know what you mean. I'm not a big fan of the term 'kid's movie', but I generally wait until a movie that appeals to the younger audience is on home video (be it DVD/Blu-Ray, streaming, or whatever) before seeing it. I'm not sure I'd be able to see it in the cinema for the same reasons you gave.

I wish we were back to a decade or so ago when we didn't have to deal with this generative AI bullcrap. It's a terrible idea that actually discourages human creativity and only adds to the overall dystopian atmosphere of our current situation.

Thunderbolts might be my favorite Marvel movie of the past year or so. A good balance of psychological drama, action, humor, and characterization.

I tend to agree that it's time for Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt to retire. There's only so long Tom Cruise can keep doing his own stunts. And at a certain point, movies that keep trying to top themselves DO have to scale down. I haven't seen this movie yet, but that climax does seem WAY too much.

I heard about this one. Very scary indeed. Of course it'd be scary regardless of what movie is being played, but given the premise of Final Destination, that just adds a whole extra unsettling layer. The scares became TOO real here.

I've known cats who can be pretty demanding employers, but it's hard to hold it against them because they're likeable companions.

This past weekend, I was at VARF, and I greatly enjoyed it. I posted my usual writeup at the 'book' site, and also on Dreamwidth. Not sure if I should try posting it here, since I'd have to find a way to break it up into several 'thread' posts.

Context doesn't mean anything to them. They're acting like an automated filter programmed to filter out certain words regardless of context.

It's a clear Malicious Disappointment as far as any actual progressive statements goes. Several have found it insulting to both Mexicans and transgender people, which is not something we want to have now of all times. Snarky Jay gives another take on the controversy. youtu.be/XWYGWvPi2wM?...
