Former Auckland executive who paid teen $1000 for sex, sentenced to 10 months home detention The court denied the man permanent name suppression, but he still cannot be named.

10 months home detention for grooming and raping a teenager.
It seems that if you're a white guy with a job and a bit of money, you can get away with sexual crimes against women and children with basically a slap on the wrist, even if you have the bad luck to be found guilty.

Oddly not mentioned: support for violence against women
predicts support for violent extremism.

β€œMisogyny is often central to violent extremist indoctrination, recruitment and ideology and yet it mostly escapes scrutiny by policymakers.”

We should check on that.πŸ‘‡

Law firm boss who repeatedly exposed female staff to porn at work can now be named Although Damian Botherway clicked out of porn sites, the female staff still saw snippets and felt horror, shock, disgust, discomfort, embarrassment, and shame.

This International Women’s Day/Week, my wish is simple: no creeps in the workplace and women actually being safe at work 😑🀬

"Labour councillors have already voted to delay bus and bike improvements to Courtenay Place. The Mayor also floated letting cars back onto the Kent Terrace bus lane the other week? Now, Labour councillors recommended slashing the climate action team’s budget."

Staff cuts possible as Wellington City Council unveils multimillion-dollar savings proposal | Jonny Osborne Proposed cuts to the Wellington City Council climate programme are exactly the sort of short-term thinking we must avoid if we're to properly prepare for (and minimise) the impacts of climate change. ...

And here we start with cancelling the wrong things

Wellington’s bike lane buildout is at risk. We can do something. If you care about Wellington taking climate action, you have to tell our city councillors ahead of a vote on Thursday. Contact councillors to support climate action On Friday last week, Wellington C...

Labour councillors told us climate change demands urgent action. Now that bike lanes are at risk, we must remind them of that promise.

Wellington council budget cuts = big climate cuts and a lower rate rise This year’s rates increase will be 7.4% as opposed to the forecast 9.4%, which was itself down on earlier predictions - if all cost-cutting recommendations are adopted.

Our Climate Change programmes are working! Last year Wellington city reduced emissions by 5%. Now is not the time for Climate cuts! We’ll only have to pay more later!

Wellington council budget cuts - big climate cuts Deputy mayor Ben McNulty has been behind closed doors taking a scalpel to council spending and today, some time around noon, invites Wellington to see his masterpiece.

We’re in a climate crisis, a 40 percent cut to our climate response budget makes no sense financially or for the future of the city. Next week’s proposals include a total gutting of cycleway funding, & a backdown on commercial rates for Air B&B providers www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3609...

Justice Department withheld and removed some Epstein files related to Trump An NPR investigation finds the public database of Epstein files is missing dozens of pages related to sexual abuse accusations against President Trump.

The US Justice Department withheld testimony that Donald Trump sexually abused a girl when she was 13 or 14 - according to a source who viewed unredacted Epstein files.

This is the worst scandal in US history and should be the biggest news story on the planet right now.

But when councils spend the money they need to on infrastructure, including water the TPU runs media campaigns complaining about wasteful council spending. It needs to be noted that the NZ media is utterly complicit in this smoke & mirrors.

I only joined the Greens a year ago (although I've party voted for them for years) and have been very impressed by their democratic processes and inclusivity. There are many ways to express disagreement without complaining anonymously to the media and making spurious claims about the process #nzpol

β€œThe focus here was making sure that our candidates were ready to be members of Parliament ready to contribute in a Green government,” Swarbrick said.

Candidates needed to be ready not just to serve as ministers, but to have support networks in place for what would inevitably be a huge amount of online hate and the β€œawful workplace” of Parliament.

β€œIt is really important to us that people are supported and ready to go in every sense of the word. The environment of politics is gruelling and full noise. ...We have seen immense pressure placed on individual people. It’s an incredibly toxic and awful workplace.”

The Green Party is finally taking its job of candidate selection, vetting, and pastoral care seriously and it is causing turmoil among the people who saw nothing wrong with the previous status quo that resulted in the party losing three MPs in two years thepost.co.nz/politics/360...

Labour MP ejected from House after 'trifling' over Peters' remark Kieran McAnulty ordered out after challenging Speaker Gerry Brownlee's decisions on comments made by Winston Peters.

Kieran was ejected because he told the truth:
"Failing to require Winston Peters to withdraw and apologise for something that was quite clearly an offensive comment, when you have required that of other members β€” indeed, other party leaders β€” runs the risk of you applying different standards"

19.02.2026 03:45 β€” πŸ‘ 87    πŸ” 23    πŸ’¬ 5    πŸ“Œ 4

Brownlee lays down the law on Winston's racism, but refuses to force him to withdraw and apologise because "the moment has passed". Of course, he applied different rules to ChlΓΆe Swarbrick back in August, because he's a partisan, misogynistic hypocrite.
