Ok. This is going to be a long thread about #WW2 in the Pacific: the Battle off Samar, which is a subset of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, the largest sea battle in #History due to the area, & amount of combatants.

First, let’s look at the background and what caused this collision.

#OTD in 1944, William Hitler joined the fight against his uncle Adolf by enlisting in the U.S. Navy. Initially rejected, he received permission to serve after writing to FDR and getting cleared by the FBI. He later changed his name and lived quietly in NY until his death in 1987.
