I knew. I grew in suburban Atlanta in the 1950s & 60s. TV showed Bull Conner in Alabama. Showed MLK speeches. Then I heard what the white folks I lived around say about MLK. I remember the night he was murdered in Tennessee. Civil Rights laws just made the racists hide in the shadows not change.
