Mostly depends on how you define the two terms,
e.g., one can be educated but stupid. As for scum, I think we can break it down to a few subcategories: hateful (subs incl. racism, misogyny, transphobia, etc.), greedy, selfish, narcissistic, sociopathic. Many are in multiple categories. Works for me.

There are hundreds of thousands of academics in the US. Like biblical scholars, there’s always a few will back any perspective, immoral, irrational, whatever.
It’s one of the problems in our digital Tower of Babel now. But you can always tell a thin, BS argument. Ross Douthat will give a platform.

It’s true. No Paramount+, no Star Trek. We don’t get democracy back without much greater sacrifices than boycotts. Ask the folks in Minnesota. But it’s a start, and it hits the right targets.

Since we’re not in political power at the moment, perhaps our best weapon against monopolies is the targeted boycott. Look at what happened when ABC fired Kimmel. People dropped subscriptions by the tens of thousands, and ABC caved. Maybe it’s time to drop HBOMax and Paramount+.

Everyone is in denial. The guy built a personal army just for this reason. He’s said more than once, there won’t be another election. He will pull every legal, illegal, digital and goon squad tactic he can, and the current Congress will back him. They’ll refuse to swear in Democrats. It’s real.
