At work I help build climate, adaptation, and risk analysis training courses and professional development programs. Otherwise most of my time goes to kids and cooking tbh. But skiing too when I can.
And every dad knew, as the mama did too
'Twas the witch of damned clustered feeding
the babe, it is said, never gives up their bed
when an over tired mama starts crooning
*sorry I'll stop. As someone who sang plenty of gordon lightfoot as bedtime lullabies to three babies this had me reminiscing

As someone who (i) bought most affordable EV I could only when it was needed, (ii) doesn't drive much, (iii) lives in northern Ontario... can confirm I'm worse off now.
Also, feel pretty frickin' annoyed going past the pumps.
When I hear people (and Planners) say they need more certainty in climate projections before making decisions, this exactly is what always comes to mind! We're pretty certain about climate projections by comparison!
09.02.2025 03:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Definitely was not being literal. There's multiple pathways to improved climate resilience for buildings, which have a range costs and benefits and different points in the lifecycle.

31.01.2025 15:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Hi! We've been doing a lot of this work in Canada, for many years, including for coastal highways and even for northern roads affected by permafrost. pievc.ca/wp-content/u...

30.01.2025 13:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There's a tool we use - developed in Canada - to do this type of climate risk assessment for infrastructure, including roads and highways. In fact, lots of case studies to look at how it's been done over decades, including in B.C. pievc.ca
30.01.2025 13:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That's correct. Fortunately, it's taught by a Professor of Law who also happens to be an engineer.
07.01.2025 14:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0About me - started off in engineering and climate mitigation, but have been working on adaptaiton and risk for >10 years now. Living and working remotely from north-eastern Ontario.
15.11.2024 15:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Climate Risk Institute works internationally with partners, including GiZ, to deliver risk assessment and adaptation projects and capacity development. Recent and/or ongoing initiatives in Suriname, Cameroon, Iraq, Georgia, Philippines and more.
15.11.2024 15:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0New courses to be launched next year include a course on risk and adaptation for buildings designers and experts (Led by @rtmlepage.bsky.social), and a course for Forestry Practitioners.
15.11.2024 15:29 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0However, we also do a lot of customized capacity development and training for cities, other public agencies and departments throughout Canada, and internationally.
15.11.2024 15:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We have courses in climate risk, PIEVC protocol (and infrastructure cliamte risk assessment tool), applied climate science, asset management for climate resilience and more. Our audiences include engineers, architects, planners, and range of other adaptation practitioners.
15.11.2024 15:29 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0We manage two overlapping credentials, one of which is the 'Infrastructure Resilience Professional' credential. Much of the training is delivered as professional development (check out our courses at Royal Roads University - pcs.royalroads.ca/climate-risk...)
15.11.2024 15:29 β π 1 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Introducing myself here as I've smashing that 'follow-all' on multiple climate, risk, climate science accounts over the past few weeks.
Through Climate Risk Institute I work on the development of training programs in the areas of climate risk and adaptation.
One of the main messages of this course is that practitioners *really* need to know their limitations and learn to work with domain experts. Not understanding climate data (let alone *risk* data is an issue. (pcs.royalroads.ca/search/publi...)
14.11.2024 15:44 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So good! Thanks for starting this thread. As a non-profit we're fielding 'good faith' inquiries about risk assessment which amount to... providing people with market research for free.

We also work internationally developing skills and capacity in areas of climate risk, applied climate science, resilient infrastructure.
11.11.2024 16:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hi - I'm at the Canadian non-profit Climate Risk Institute. I'm working on developing / delivering climate risk and adaptation professional development courses across a number of sectors, incl infrastruture, buildings, forestry, coastal. Manage the Infrastructure Resilience Professional credential.
