Not a scientist, but I've had M.E. for a very long time. My best guess, if you have an immune system that is chronically in top gear, or close to it, it is going to take out as many viruses as it can. It's not the number of viruses we have that is the problem, it's the immune system.

As far as I know, yes, she did. I do recommend the book. Charming, sincere, and funny - and full of dog photos. People shared. My copy has survived two of the dreaded downsizings.
