Just looking again at the pics. Hard with my eyes, but the second pick, it looks like it's chest might be kind of mottled(?) That can often be a sign of a young bird. A lot of species start out kind of brown/neutral & white blotchy (for better camouflage) & get their colours as adults.

It's a heron. I'm not sure what type you folks get out there, but it's a bit like the one we we have here, which would be a grey one.

Another fun way to up your birding knowledge is to try a "bird identification key" - you can get them free online & they're so easy to use. Like playing 20 questions
