This is a lot of why I've grown cold to osr stuff. Lots of claims that "games can be more than their mechanics" and, like, yeah, obviously I agree, but a setting or an adventure with a bunch of roll tables is basically useless.

If dnd is dungeon crawling by way of tolkien and vance, then Censor Bar is dungeon crawling by way of kojima and gibson.

I think, as a dungeon crawler enthusiast and lover, we owe a lot more to wizardry than we do to dnd. I know, I know, we wouldn't have wizardry without it, but who fucking cares who does a thing first? First doesn't mean best. And for all we know, dnd was not the first, just the most american.

I often struggle with what I perceive as being neccesary or expected in a ttrpg and cutting those things is so freeing.

Working on the AW3rd kickstarter (T minus 6 btw) and I notice that listed under Meg's and my name it says "11 created • 347 backed."

Okay first of all, 347 backed, wowie.

But of those 347, probably around 300 have been PbtA. That's a lot to be confronted with on a Tuesday morning.

So in Censor Bar, a kid in Mercy City discovers a video game that requires her to commit her life to it before the first level. Upon agreeing, the haunted cartridge gives riddlic clues that send her into the haunted sprawl of her own city to hunt street spirits before they kill again.

I think i make it till 930pm before I get sick of this and wipe it all off. place your bets!
