as someone who really enjoys writing & recording & prodding at instruments i love learning about other folks' process, both "informationally" & as a bit of insight into someone else's headspace! but i also appreciate that it can be really distracting/derailing to treat that work as "content"!

and sure, sometimes famous people buck their own handlers, & that’s part of their mass appeal. but what circulates most widely is always part of a lattice of intention - economic, culture-producing - in which the individual is one small component, however superlative they might seem

all i can think about when i see some olympian or oscar winner or halftime show is the incredible amount of curation & calculation that went into every moment of that person’s appearance, & who was involved in that calculation, & what their motives are

if we’re going to attack and dethrone god, do we really need some exemplar to set that in motion? let alone, like, a celebrity? fact is, we’re much more likely to be fighting alongside people we actually know, & the inspiration in those “mundane” relationships is where real freedom lives

it’s a strange phenomenon, & certainly one fueled by the contentification of…everything…that we spend so much time trying to make public figures (athletes, actors, politicians) into avatars for the better world we claim to want
