The improvements in sustainability metrics are quite astonishing with PMIs 1 to 2 orders magnitude better than conventional solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) methods. The bonus is that all of it can be run in conventional small molecule manufacturing equipment unlike most SPPS approaches.

This week I'm excited to share the latest of these innovations, the liquid-phase peptide synthesis (LPPS) via N to C chain growth of peptide fragments using unprotected free amino acids. This new platform enables the synthesis of fragments and further coupling of these to make linear peptides.

The field of peptide therapeutics is exploding with many new approvals in the last decade. However, the manufacturing of peptide therapeutics is lagging behind. We have been investing in novel approaches to manufacture peptides since 2016.
