Medicaid cuts may shift who is paying for long term care rather than decrease demand for home health. Home health demand will likely persist given that many people require this care, which may force families to pay out of pocket, otherwise take on more unpaid caregiving.

Health care sector keeps adding jobs β for now
The U.S. added 51,000 health care jobs last month, but proposed cuts to Medicaid could slow hiring.
When asked about the future of healthcare job growth in light of Medicaid cuts by @npr.org, I said that job growth particularly in home health will depend on how hard retail jobs will be hit by tariffs. www.marketplace.org/story/2025/0...

Recent job reports show that healthcare has been adding jobs to the economy. Home health has seen robust growth over the last year or so, with some slowing in recent months.

Also, these estimates are just that - estimates. CPS is not a tool for identifying undocumented workers. I get the intent of the authors which is to show the potential impact of immigration policies on the health workforce, but TBH, I worry that the use of this data in this way may backfire.

Immigrants play an important role in healthcare, but we need to be sure that deportation efforts are not inadvertently hurting those who are holding jobs legally and/or scaring off those are eligible to work particularly home care jobs where demand is huge!

Cutting research funding cuts WA jobs, too | Op-Ed
When it comes to funding cuts at the National Institutes of Health, the broader public may not appreciate that it is not just professorsβ jobs on the line.
Academic medical centers are often a major, if not the largest, employer in many cities and are the pride of these cities. Funding threats are not only hurting innovation and discoveries but also a job killer.
