I have used "i o, i o....it's off to work I go" ( for blood group O genotype) with two classes of 18 year olds, and easily 8 or 9 of them recognised it.
From a 1937 film! How does that happen?!

Fantastic!!!
It's over 20 years since we were there but I still remember a steak I had in Bar Estrella, which was the best I've ever eaten. We had tapas in various spots behind the cathedral, and all of it was fantastic, it felt like it was hard to go wrong.
The Carboneria is a great experience, for flamenco.
Sending good wishes.
It's tough, and time doesn't really fix it, I know.
Hope the day passes OK, anniversaries are hard.
The rest of the front row includes other great science teachers, the principal and my Latin teacher, as well as the head of science's husband.
I was educated by strong, enthusiastic, clever and interesting women.
(The lone male physics teacher, back row, was also great. Just not his day today.)
I also remember how bad I felt when, as VP in our girls' school, she gently told me off for taking a lunchtime walk to the other side of the pitches with a boy.

I still remember her notes and demos, and I glowed like a bulb on a wooden circuit board when I did well in her subjects.
08.03.2026 10:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The lady at the front in pale blue, who was retiring as head of science, was my first form chemistry teacher. Over 40 years ago, she sent us out to pick grass, which we then snipped and crushed and made a chromatogram of, and I learned that chlorophyll and xanthophyll existed.
08.03.2026 10:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0For #IWD, here is a pic of some people who I hold in high regard, my teachers in the 80s. The mostly grey haired women who introduced me to science were brilliant. With little experience of science before big school, I didn't realise at the time that they were setting me on my path.

06.03.2026 07:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It's the weirdest thing too, because it seems to me that every child is born loving sparkly things. But when you get to shop for your first shoes, the boys are shown camo instead of glitter π
05.03.2026 20:00 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I welcome a lot, but not all, of the planned changes but the success of any of it will be in the implementation. I'm not at all confident in that, since the system is broke and exhausted.

Another TransformEd report published today, this time on assessment to age 14. No more than a report at this stage, but assume the Dept is likely to take forward at least some of it.
30 years ago I was doing my PGCE. In 30 years, there has never been a time when so much change was planned at once.
Makes me mad, as mother to three boys.
We cheer for girls being more traditionally boyish, but not for boys being more traditionally girlish.
Depressing that so many don't see the misogyny in that.
Hammer To Fall; is there a finer banger on the ever present spectre of mortality?
Cheers U105...
Are they using it outside of 'direct instruction'?
Which to me is part of teaching but not all of it.
Fab! I've emailed you.
Definitely gonna need to bring a step stool for the top tier π
Excellent! Love the visdeurbel!

Spring has sprung and sunshine is on the way π.
Lidl has berry bushes and B&M has bare root fruit trees for Β£7.50! We used the fruit trees for our mini orchard in school, they've done brilliantly.
Yeah, you're right. I was thinking the grief had triggered something else but actually think this started before she lost her dad.
Sad to see, I hope someone does intervene.
She's 41, I suppose there a limit to what anyone can do for her if she's on her own path.
Grief is taking a significant toll on both, I think.
Monty Don's wisdom about his new knee also describes one of the reasons for my dislike of ai.

I knew these were a good idea.
It's not on the GCSE spec, so sadly I do not π§
