Trump's Pentagon name change could cost up to $2 billion Officially changing the Department of Defense to the Department of War can only be done by Congress and would require updating thousands of signs, rewriting digital code and creating new letterheads,...

Trump & Republicans can find $2 billion to rename the Department of Defense.

But they can’t find the money to make your health care more affordable.

Give me a break.

So Trump pushes GOP states to gerrymander themselves into one-party rule and then when other states respond, his DOJ sues them and them alone for it. Gimme a break.

These people are such embarrassments and bring such shame upon the US government.

I dunno but if you’re feeling defensive about NYT taking heat for decades of feigning ignorance on Epstein, maybe sit in your feels and reflect. Because without any public whipping at all @jkbjournalist.bsky.social went at the story head on and now we’re here.

I think that’s why we need to do better explaining things. Most people read headlines or an article here and there. Not many have time to research every political issue we face.
And the issue is rarely as simple as good vs bad. How and why and what cost to who, all the details matter.

Also most voters have just never thought remotely seriously about policy. β€œShould we get rid of illegal immigrants? Well, of course; they’re illegal!” There’s nothing deeper than that going on until they start seeing what that actually entails.

International Criminal Court to ditch Microsoft Office for European open source alternative | Euractiv The court will move its internal work environment to Open Desk, a German-developed open source software

The International Criminal Court is ditching Microsoft Office, saying it’s too dependent on US tech, in favor of Open Desk, a German open source alternative.

The move comes after Microsoft revoked ICC head Karim Khan’s email access when he was sanctioned by the US for the warrant against Netanyahu.

Perfect example of political media operating under the post-truth standard that (1) distorts the facts until the parties look approximately equal, and (2) holds β€œdo MAGA voters care?” as a higher standard than β€œis it true?” or β€œis it important for the public to know about this?”

I’m thinking of McConnell’s promise to make sure nothing gets done under the Obama administration. Or under Biden how the border deal was squashed. They vote against the things they agree with. They vote against progress if it hurts β€œthe other side.” We need to fix things and move forward.

I think we have to consider getting rid of it. They trampled all over norms and laws and the constitution. We need to restore integrity and set new parameters for preventing this from ever happening again. We’ll do it legally, but it can only be done without the filibuster.

Here's a thread from a while back illustrating a dynamic that historian Jefferson Cowie has called "racialized anti-statism." The anti-statist feelings are very real...but the "principles" they rest upon are illiberal in that they are not universally applied to all. bsky.app/profile/seth...

Ruby Ridge & Waco were not easy situations for the feds to resolve. But they were at least *situations* that merited some sort of response. A bunch of non-criming, undocumented people living in an apartment building which was also occupied by many legal residents and citizens was not * a situation*.

NEW: @propublica.org investigated the Chicago apartment raid where kids were zip-tied and citizens detained for hours. They find:

- NONE of the arrested were criminally charged
- NO evidence the building was "filled with TdA terrorists."
- ZERO legitimate reason for DHS to rappel from a Blackhawk.

Sulfur-based batteries could offer electric vehicles a greener, longer-range option Battery researchers are seeking options with better performance, improved environmental sustainability and lower cost than lithium-ion batteries.

Electric vehicles powered by sulfur batteries could go twice as far as today's EVson a single charge. Researchers are making progress on building batteries durable enough for real-world use. buff.ly/jxpQ137
