Wonderful! Bet that brings back memories. ππΉ
13.05.2025 05:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I managed to borrow a Korg M1 off a very generous friend once, and literally locked myself in the room with it for days!
12.05.2025 12:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Haha! That was always an adventure. ππΉ
12.05.2025 12:55 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thatβs a terrific first tune. And that synth line still does the same now, I bet. πΉπ
12.05.2025 10:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Being in the middle of a big choir is like nothing else, right? Just a wall of human beauty. ππΉ
12.05.2025 10:48 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Haha! Thatβs beautiful. Working your way up, or down the family of instruments. πΉπ
12.05.2025 10:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Love a radio/cassette - very tactile way of playing music. ππΉ
12.05.2025 10:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Musical memories seem to go into a similar deep part of the brain as smells. Theyβre often some of the last to fade when we age, and that striking sense of being transported when you catch a song fragment β¦ feels like one of core elements of being human.
Whatβs your earliest musical memory? ππΉ
Definitely good to have a roadmap. Among many highlights, nonchalantly dispatching that Ligeti piano Γ©tude was right up there β¦
26.04.2025 21:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Donβt think I breathed for 90 mins!
26.04.2025 21:04 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0One of the highlights of the year. πΉπ

I heard the trailer for @hannahpeel.bsky.social βs new Radio 3 show, brass banding, and it took me right back - Batley Grammar School band, then the Yorkshire Post, then the Albert Hall! Amazing music making, rooted in the community, and open to all. Long live the brass band. πΊππΉ
23.04.2025 09:56 β π 7 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0It is! Write away. Iβm still working through my lovely backlog of correspondence here β¦ ππΉ
21.04.2025 12:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Iβve updated my blog with a couple of articles about being a composer in an AI world, and music editing for films. All practical advice from a veteran! Feel free to share with any young composers and anyone entering the film & TV music game. πΉπ

Clearly the sea meets the sky in lots of places, but there is something magical about the Suffolk coast at Easter. 4th year running taking the kids to Southwold β¦ πΉπ
17.04.2025 09:08 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Well said. Iβm looking at the sharp downturn in music education outside private schools with horror.
14.04.2025 17:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0βLow-effort creativityβ - thatβs a great phrase. Gen AI really seems to miss the investment of time and effort that brings the real rewards.
14.04.2025 12:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Sounds about right.
14.04.2025 09:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Very good point. There are some trade offs going on, for sure.
14.04.2025 07:19 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Absolutely. I do wonder that the difficult process of forming your thoughts so you can write them down in some way is part of what makes us human. Seems a short-sighted thing to outsource!
14.04.2025 06:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Glorious sunrise up in Craster. πΉπ
14.04.2025 05:49 β π 11 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0Is using AI to write, draw or compose making us less human? πΉπ
14.04.2025 05:42 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 8 π 0Last night was the 1st real step on my new recording project βThe Seasonsβ, with a trip to the Painted Church, Cambridge to hear The Gesualdo Six.
In 2025/6 Iβll be working with some amazing chamber ensembles + recording my new music with them in beautiful locations.
Do come & walk along with us.
We planted a weeping cherry tree in our garden before Christmas, and are just seeing it come into blossom for the first time. In case you needed something beautiful to balance out β¦ all this. πΉπ
03.04.2025 09:54 β π 8 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0As a cascade of AI generated art and music βproductsβ fill our feeds, is sharing a human process going to be the only thing that matters? ππΉ
03.04.2025 09:39 β π 4 π 1 π¬ 2 π 0Wonderful Piano Day performances at the Barbican last night for the @mannersfaber.bsky.social launch event. Maybe the film&TV agenting and publishing world is on the turn?

Ha! Awesome. πΉπ
02.04.2025 10:33 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Haha! Iβve taken to rescuing collections β¦ this way a storage unit lies. ππΉ
02.04.2025 08:54 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Much of the debate around AI 'art' surely misses the point that art is as much about the practice and making, as it is about the outcome. Typing a prompt and clicking on an image or track is the thinnest, most meagre experience of making art or music I could possibly imagine. πΉπ
02.04.2025 07:36 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Morning Poloroid taken by the budding 8 yr old photographer in the house. Bottom of picture shows vinyl storage issues, leading to the question: βcan you ever have too many records?β ππΉ
