I FINALLY ordered a copy of @jennmjacksonphd.bsky.social book Black Women Taught Us. I ordered through Bookshop.org and chose to support a Black woman-owned bookstore as part of my purchase. This purchase was long overdue and I am very excited to dive in! ❤️

I was in 4th grade, and our class watched it in the school library. I was standing next to my teacher, and I grabbed her hand when the explosion happened. The principal activated the phone tree so parents could pick us up. The entire school was empty within the hour after the explosion.

I'm always excited to find out about "adorable" things in the world. Today, I came across a photo of a nudibranch, followed by many photos, and there are so many colorful and interesting ones, then I saw the sea bunnies. My heart, they're so precious. 🥰🥹. It's the little things. ❤️

Two orchids. A tall pink petal orchid in a pink pot and a smaller purple orchid in a purple pot. I recently purchased them, and my joy has increased quite a bit.

I recently purchased 2 lovely orchids. Over the last few days, I have found that they bring me so much joy, and they probably have no idea.

Today in history, 1945: Phyllis Mae Daley is sworn in to the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps, the first African American nurse to serve in WWII. There had been an implicit ban on African Americans serving as nurses due to biased recruiting and admittance procedures. /1

Today is International Women's Day. I admit I did not know the history of how this day came to be, but found this website to be a good starting place for my self guided education.

Day 26 of #BlackHistoryMonth- on February 26, 1869 the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitutionwas passed, giving Black men the right to vote. It was ratified a year later.

Colorado's Rep Brittany Pettersen (D) flew cross-country with her one-month-old to vote against the GOP budget tonight. Dems ended up one vote short. Pettersen was part of an unsuccessful bipartisan push to allow new mothers to vote remotely. #copolitics

As we continue to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth, I’m reflecting on the contributions of Black Americans to our state & country. Here’s just a small slice of Black history across Colorado:

Day 23 of ##BlackHistoryMonth- On February 23, 1868, W.E.B. Du Bois was born in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. He was an activist, historian, sociologist, author, and one of the founding members of the NAACP.

We should always remember that African music laid the foundation for jazz, blues, rock, hip-hop, and beyond, with Black pioneers whose creativity and resilience have shaped the sound of our lives. During Black History Month, we should celebrate these innovators.

Day 22 of #BlackHistoryMonth- Happy 75th birthday to basketball legend Julius "Dr. J" Erving, born February 22, 1950.

Day 21 of #BlackHistoryMonth- February 21, 1965 Malcolm X was assassinated inside Harlem's Audobon Ballrom in New York. He was 39 years old.
