You can tell how much I love a book by how much I annotate it. And @mattpolprof.bsky.social 's "The Political Theory of Liberal Socialism" is probably the one I annotated the most. It's a pretty good book and free from the blind Marxism of some comrades. I recommend.

What was there to ruin? China was on its knees. Hu Yaobang would've saved the whole mess had he not died and his supporters not killed.

Remind me of the hundred flowers bloom. If you've spoken to anyone who loved under Mao, which I have in spades, they will tell you it sucked. And yes, Marx did say that. I have read every part of Marxist theory that a college course can offer.

Not to mention, China barely has any workers councils, coops, or union power. China is a capitalist state ruled by capitalists.

China is not a democracy. Democracy requires the freedom to dissent. And China's development came through capitalism. Mao forgot that part of Marx where only capitalist societies can become socialist. China was still feudal at his point and you had 80 million dead.

Mao and his followers failed. China is capitalist.

If we can achieve #socialism through simple and sane reforms, let's achieve it. If we have to achieve socialism through a #massstrike, let us not bloody our hands. We are not the elites, we will not act like them.
