Early Savatage is waaaaaay better, it really all kinda ended at Gutter Ballet — after that it was just too theatrical for me. Plus I prefer Jon Oliva’s vocals. They basically morphed into Trans Siberian Orchestra.

What’s amazing is that Sirens & Dungeons basically make a double album — both recorded in a single 24 hour session

1983. An incredible phase: thrash, speed, black, power, crossover — those sub-genres seeded. It’s been a variation of a theme since. Besides the “usual suspects” — the likes of Court in the Act, Sirens, Crystal Logic, and Melissa were *years* ahead of their time, and still relevant today.

I think we missed out on a Jake & Dio album — I mean, post Viv Campbell’s exit from Dio, and Jake going off to start Badlands… there was that window right there, just 1 Dio album with Jake — I think their songwriting styles would have been perfect together
